Happens both directions. My aunt and her husband were gypsy vagabond Dirty HippiesTM, so naturally their daughter married the biggest abortion-clinic-protesting narrowminded white Protestant bigoted ignorant construction worker she could find. It all turned out okay though, ends up he's actually a pretty hard-workin' no-nonsense kid. ::shrug::

It's funny you say that because her politics always sounded like trying to be conservative so she could be ~different. She doesn't really know what the fuck she's talking about most of the time, and she repeats conservative sound bites without thinking about them (and gets eaten alive by Joy Behar, which is always fun to watch).
