I'm sorry, you must have said something worthwhile but all I heard coming out of your mouth "I am a tool. I am a very big tool. I am all of Home Depot."

Then why weren't his friends "kids with glasses" or "boy in hat"? I'm sorry, "name", "name", "ginger kid" makes you lose that argument.

I could buy it being a descriptor if his friends got receipts that said "kid in hat" or "wearing star wars shirt" or something like that.

It may not seem as bad as some other cases, but there has been known to be some horrible things done to kids who have red hair just because they're "gingers." IIRC it happens more often than it should in England and even does in the US - my own experience can attest to that - even if here we don't slap the word ginger on it. Is it as horrible as what people go through based on skin color and religion? No, it isn't. But it still doesn't make it excusable and fixable by free pizza.

Exactly. This kid was bullied for being a ginger, and that sucks, but there is no systematic oppression of ginger kids and 'ginger' is a perfectly neutral term for describing red hair. Kids get bullied for having glasses, but would it be malicious to describe a child as 'kid with the glasses'?

An adult bullying an 11 year old? Stay classy. It's good that they got an apology, but the employee responsible should be fired, and the manager should quit making bullshit excuses.

only a ginger can call another ginger ginger

Tim Minchin and myself had a lengthy (well, 2 minutes) discussion about the troubles of being a ginger and our own gingerness after one of his shows.

Made my life, tbh.

What is with the 'sucks he was bullied, but...' comments?

perhaps it's not systematic oppression, but it is malicious and hurtful.

Because the father actually had the ignorance to compare it to racism and fatpobia.

Pretty much. Bullying is not ok, period. No one gets a pass - be it because of race, sexuality, glasses, hair color, whatever.

And yet being called a ginger kid is not the same as racism.
