Biden’s big tent

Party for breast cancer survivors, Jill’s water gun revenge

The tent on the Vice-President’s lawn served double duty this weekend: On Friday, it held 200 breast cancer survivors and advocates at a party honoring the Komen Foundation; on Saturday, it hosted Joe and Jill Biden’s second annual beach bash for the press, where the second lady got some long-awaited revenge.

Friday was all about pink - banners, flowers, lights and the veep’s bubble-gum pink shirt. “I hope, like so many fathers and husbands and sons, and pray that the work that is being done so well by the Komen Foundation bears fruit, because we all have a stake in this,” Joe Biden told the crowd. Guests included Komen founder Nancy Brinker; Attorney General Eric Holder; Today Show co-host Hoda Kotb, emcee and breast cancer survivor herself, and Gary and Mona Locke - the Commerce Secretary is headed to China next month as U.S. Ambassador; his wife has been working for the foundation and hopes to bring its message with her to Beijing.

And then, for something completely different: Saturday’s press party started out with Jill Biden in a striped shirt and white pants - a seemingly perfect target for her husband, who drenched her with a Super Soaker water gun at last year’s event. Not this time, buster: She changed into a black wig, Army T-shirt and camouflage pants (yeah, she looked hot) and launched a counter-offensive against the veep. We’re not taking sides: Let’s call it a draw.
