Everybody knows he did it, but the question is whether he's guilty or "guilty except insane" (as Arizona law calls it, which seems to be a rather archaic term, but one in use in many legal codes).
The courts have to figure out whether or not he should be sent to prison or to a medical institution. Arizona's law concerning this seems to be pretty logical, but as he's being tried in federal court I'm not sure what the procedure is.
tbh, from what I've read this guy is pretty sick and deluded. I'm not sure if his sickness is such that it excuses him from criminal responsibility (there's far less overlap between mental illness and criminality than the popular press would have you think), but it's likely that this guy belongs in an institution, not in prison.
Yeah, I read an article about a month ago [or whenever] that he'd been declared unable to stand trial for reasons of insanity [or something like that]. It's... really sad all around and I can imagine that most people wish he'd been able to get treatment before any of this happened.
"Jared Lee Loughner, 22, has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the shooting and is being held at a Missouri facility."
lol wat. bitch we know it was you.
