Stephen Colbert calls out Senator Jon Kyl and his lies about Planned Parenthood

BY JESSICA GENTILE
APRIL 13TH, 2011,

My, how the tables have turned for Arizona Senator Jon Kyl. As you may remember, Kyl recently claimed that over ninety percent of Planned Parenthood's services were dedicated to abortion - a statement that couldn't be further from the truth (the actual number is closer to three percent). So how did he justify his words? Easy, Kyl claimed his congressional speech was "not intended to be a factual statement." It's an inspired bit of back-pedalling, the kind ripe for satirical celebration, and that's where Stephen Colbert comes in.

Over the past twenty-four hours Colbert has spearheaded a Twitter campaign dedicated to all the truthy non-truths about Kyl himself. For instance, bet you didn't know that "for the past ten years Jon Kyl has been two children in a very convincing Jon Kyl suit" or that he "was named after the Quebec town, Jonquière, which is fitting because he ate all of its residents," #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement, of course. Watch as he explains the game on last night's Report, and join in with your own Kyl facts in the comments.
