MINEOLA, L.I.- Citing police sources and family interviews
the New York Times reports suspicion is growing that whoever dumped a batch of bodies along a secluded stretch of
Suffolk County beach has a "sophisticated understanding of police investigative techniques" -- even suggesting the possible serial killer might be a current or former member of law enforcement.
The disturbing new development was the talk of the town Sunday in parts of
Long Island. Long Island resident Joan Giarmo told PIX 11 News: "he knew exactly what to do...and he was contacting the victim's sister. I don't know I think they know more, they're probably just not disclosing everything."
Even more chilling: the paper reports someone used 24-year-old-Bronx victim Melissa Barthelemy's cellphone, in the weeks after her disappearance to make disparaging and vulgar calls to her family. Each lasted under three minutes. Cops couldn't pinpoint the caller but some calls reportedly originated from near
Madison Square Garden,
Times Square, and Massapequa on Long Island.
Sunday night Vicky Vizza told PIX 11 News, "I don't think he's currently a cop, from what I understand he just knows how the system works because of the way that he has been disposing of their bodies."
This macabre case all began with the search for missing
New Jersey woman Shannan Gilbert. She's the 24 year old suspected sex worker whose disappearance police were initially investigating last December when they found the first of eight sets of human remains. Gilbert remains missing.
The search for more clues expands from Suffolk into
Nassau County Monday.
Source Terrible! This is why we should have some kind of recognition and regulation of the sex industry so the workers aren't vulnerable to killers, abuses, and other dangers. What kind of society do we have that produces such monsters as this serial killer?
