My thoughts are with the people of Japan, and those who have loved ones there.

I'm in coastal Bay Area and we are under Tsunami warning, but so far nothing has really materialized. The beaches are closed, as are parts of the coast highway. Some people have been evacuated from low-lying areas, and schools are closed. Traffic is really jammed on some routes; people want to get to high ground and then park where they can see the ocean. I'm on a hill and not worried at all, but I won't be going anywhere today as I'd have to pass through areas that may close.

It's super low tide at the moment, so they don't think even 3 foot waves will cause much of a problem. But risks of flooding may last all day, as high tide comes in this afternoon.

Watching the video of the tsunami engulfing Iwate and Miyagi has me close to tears. Most of my friends that I met in Japan live down near Tokyo where the damage wasn't as great, but it kills me to know what happened in Northern Japan. I so badly want to fly back and help people.
