I had to stop here.

"Miller said the bill mandates that physicians perform the sonograms but does not force women to view the sonogram image, hear the explanation or hear the amplified fetal heartbeat if present."

SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF DOING IT THEN?

And also, Republicans voted down Dutton’s proposals for the state to promise to pay for four years of college for the children, to pay for the child’s health care until age 18, and to pay for the child’s health care until age 6. They also voted down an amendment by state Rep. Richard Peña Raymond (D-Laredo) to rename one of Dutton’s proprosals the “Texas Pro-Life Health Program.”

I would really like them to just say it outright. "WE HATE WOMEN. WE THINK THEY'RE WORTHLESS, EXCEPT TO CARRY BABIES."

Seriously. And from the same source and the same state: Texas Proposed Law Could Jail Women for Taking Drugs During Pregnancy. What the fucking fuck?

What a great idea: Make sure pregnant drug-addicts will be too scared to seek help!

The term “medical emergency” appears in Texas statute more than two dozen times, and providing a new definition for the term in the sonogram bill could cause conflicts and confusion, Democrats said.

Umm, maybe you should let the doctor decide this. You know, the person who is trained in what constitutes a medical emergency.

Well, we don't let teachers decide how to do their jobs, so I guess not letting doctors decide how to do their jobs falls riiiiiiiiight along in line with that. *grr*

State Rep. Dawnna Dukes (D-Austin) said she thinks the legislation is a “tactic to try to frighten the woman into not having the procedure, as though she already didn’t have the mental capacity to make the decision.”
BINGO.

“I respectfully disagree. Thank you for your comments,” Miller said.
Ah, the good ol' "I respectfully disagree so let me as politely as I can end this conversation so I don't have to try to defend my bullshit point that women can't think for themselves"

Dawnna is my rep. She is one of the few sane people in our legislative body.

As I understand it that is because Austin is one of the few sane cities in Texas.

I feel your pain; Tucson's relationship to Arizona is about the same.

Just like every single other state in the country, the big cities in Texas are great and the small towns are backwards.
