I learned that the hard way at 12. I was engaged six years ago, but she dumped me, and I can now say better to get dumped (and get the 140 year old ring back) than to get divorced. Still was left feeling numb at the time and it sucked that this happened the same month Katrina struck.
Marriage is a contract and it is good when used right, but how many people break contracts?
I'm the product of a "stay together for the kids" loveless marriage. I watched my dad abuse my mom. I'm 25 and not a day goes by that I don't wish she had dumped his sorry ass and raised us as a single mother. Maybe I'm biased because of my experiences, but I don't think marriage for the sake of the kids is inherently moral. Sometimes it's precisely the opposite.

Same here. It was awful and so harmful. I definitely think it would have been better if my parents hadn't waited until we were all in college to finally start divorce proceedings. Life would have been better for everyone if my father had gotten out of the house sooner.
I'm the product of a teenage mom who had a kid with a guy who had zero interest in being responsible. It would have been a nightmare if they got married because of me.
Same here. My father is a dick who can't keep it in his pants worth a damn (my family caught him cheating when we went to our usual theater in Queens once, funnily enough). It was the best decision considering the circumstances.
I didn't mean to come off as sarcastic. I literally meant it. I don't believe people should have to get married to have kids, and marriage sure as fuck doesn't guarantee stability. I'm sorry this came off wrong.
My dad's been married five tims, my mom three -- and I am SO GRATEFUL that divorce exists cos they were ALL toxic relationships. (They're both dating/not married now and it's okay.)
