Derbyshire is an odd one. He's on the blog Secular Right, which would imply he's more independent-minded, though he was a whipping boy of Andrew Sullivan back in the days Andrew's conservative credentials were unquestioned.

His precedents are very odd, and worthy of a Von Hoffman award as Chelsea has yet to even run for office, and her only recent involvement in politics is to marry the son of two former representatives. If she's like her father ideologically, I'd want her as a Democratic politician in NYC, but that quote will soon be ten years old, when the worst accusation that could be pointed at Chelsea is that she is taking full advantage of the social connections and privileges her parents provided, or that she didn't convert to marry her husband, neither of which would be relevant to Derby's Saxon arse. This could be taken out of context, or just a little partisan nastiness. Limbaugh, Coulter, Hansen, and Davis seem more likely to egg on the twin demons of passion and populism, while Derb and Gramm seem the odd men out.

I don't see Gramm's comment to be as egregious, plus he struck me as more a folksy goober than an impassioned demagogue when he spoke. Gingrich's rhetoric is more upsetting as he isn't some populist airhead like Palin, but a History professor who knows exactly what kind of bane all populists have been on our nation.
