Oh no, there will be a change in the gun law. A Republican Representative wants to make it illegal to have a gun within 1000 feet of a government official.

Agreed. And even if it does get passed, it's not like a person with the intent of shooting a government official will be like "Oh, there's a law that makes it illegal for me to have a gun within 1000 feet of them so I can't shoot them anymore."

Exactly. Imagine (if you're one to do so) you're legally concealed or open carrying at a coffee shop and SUDDENLY, congressperson wants a donut and comes in. Well fuck. Person chilling there having a coffee is now a criminal due to circumstance.

I can see that working against some more than others as well, if they want to excuse one for "bah you didn't know, move along" but really nail another person based on looks, they probably could. Who's to say excuses would be made fairly.

Plus I'm sure someone hellbent on really hurting/killing a congressperson is going to see that law and snap their fingers. "Oh damn, it's not LEGAL. I better not MURDER someone." Much like those gun-free school zones stop so much. =/ (That's not a call to arm high school students, but some teachers who are well trained would probably be immensely helpful.)
