Funny how even with their post-convention bump, they couldn't break even in red state Colorado or "must-win" Pennsylvania. Ohio's getting closer too, with Obama leading by Quinnipiac's estimate.
In stock-market language, we call a blip like this a "dead cat bounce."
A flash of interest from the Palin surprise only goes so far. It's not going to be sustained once the novelty has worn off.
McCain has never been able to push his national support past ~46-48%. Obama has done so multiple times.
McCain also doesn't have solid enough EV support. He can't get his solid red states past ~190. He has to pray that he appeals enough to swing voters to make up for Obama's massive advantage in solid support.
And considering that the vast majority of the McFailin policy is designed to appeal to the GOP base, and not the swing voters, they're basically screwed.
All Obama has to do is reassure nervous suburbanites that he's not an alien, and he has it sewn up.
