but the rescue mission is a religious organization. I understand why they'd turn down the offer. that doesn't mean Jeffrey Darling can't coordinate a drive with another organization.

So you think turning down coats for homeless people from a gay organization is what Jesus would've done, then?

Not all religious organizations are anti-gay, nor are they that petty. Nothing wrong with calling this one out and shaming them for their shitty behavior.

This has just not been the greatest year for queer people and charity organizations: first the Salvation Army, then the Toys for Tots, now this.

I guess this is just America's message that gay people shouldn't have to help other people, or even be allowed to help other people.

They act like we have cooties.

Jesus said NOTHING about denying people charity or the chance to give to charity. NOTHING. What part of that don't people get?

Um, I believe the original commenter was saying that Jesus didn't say anything about denying people charity OR denying someone the chance to give to charity.

Wow, well, at least they came out and admitted that it was because some of the people who donate are bigoted jerks who care more about what gay people do then they actually care about the homeless.

Still ... such a fail on their part.

how would their donors know that the portland rescue mission worked with lgbtq people? do they all have a similar musky scent or something? this is so stupid.

I think they refer to the charity drive Mr Darling wanted to give. He asked them for sponsorship, so I guess their name would have been on fliers etc, or been in the media, if they covered it.
