At least some of the bystanders will probably feel guilty and maybe in the future they'll be more likely to stand up in some way and intervene when witnessing bullying and/or homophobia.

This is really terrible and sad. I hope that the federal legislation is successful (although I won't hold my breath)--I at least wish that more states and school districts would enact strict anti-bullying laws--and make sure that the kids and parents know about them (otherwise the laws will not be useful until it's too late).

same for me, except I was mostly bullied when I was younger and in elementary/middle school

it makes me so upset, and also thankful that I have great parents and that I had some good friends outside of school...but going to school was hell for a long time
