Actually, I think it's probably more that his constituents are white, and brown people scare THEM. Sharron Angle would jump all over him on this if he didn't take this sort of non-commital stance. It's enough of a hot-button issue that it could undo the progress he's made in recent months due to her crazytalk.

I don't like it.....but I can at least understand it to a certain degree.

I'm telling you - he's running scared from that Angle ladyfriend. She had a big point lead over him until recently when she started opening her mouth and saying stupid things when her handlers weren't paying attention.

I think he's hoping that by saying stuff like this it won't detract from his slight lead. Which sucks.
