WELL, money grappling manga publisher, maybe if you didn't translate and release twice a god damn year I would buy your shit. Seriously, there are a few manga I read that put out a new chapter every week in Japan but are only released in about two volumes per year in America. Their entire system is ineffective in most cases.
Why don't they do their own scanlations for subscriptions or something if its such a huge concern? If they're the copyright holders in America it should be legal for them, right?
And when I say do their own scanlations, it's in relation to series that are regularly released and popular in America like Naruto and Bleach, which is what I'm sure these companies are pissing their pants over.
idk, personally I feel Bleach went downhill past vol ~20. Its almost like every chapter someone uses UNQUESTIONABLE DEATH RAY and then, oh shit, they didn't actually die! Everyone look surprised!
Not sure on Naruto situation since I haven't checked up on it in years. I wish the weekly artists had breaks or something to plan out the arcs better. Its obvious most of the long runners are just pulling it out of their ass by now, and with all their deadlines I kinda don't blame them.
There some really good Sasuke/Naruto ust 20 chapters back in which Naruto basically confeses his undying love for Sasuke and says if he has to kill him he doesn't want to live on.
Fangirls hit the roof on that. *was one of them*
Bleach started killing characters. A BUNCH of peeps are dead now. Aizen is practically immortal and it looks like Ichigo is crushing on and fearing the power Aizen has now. And Gin made Gin/Ichigo practically canon.
I think I'm in it for BL subtext now. I'm Aizen/Ichigo shipper...
Oh god, back when I was properly into manga and had no idea about the joys of scanlations I remember only getting two volumes of each series per year. At that age I never realised that it was getting realised a helluva lot quicker in Japan.
Now that I think about it, I think that was actually the reason I started reading manga online. I prefer reading in time with Japanese publication because of ~spoilers and all that jazz.
THIS. After discovering that Japan was waaaay ahead of America with their publishing, I jumped on the scanlation bandwagon; I don't see the point in waiting 1+ years here in the States to get to where Japan was 1+ years ago.
Tokyopop has five titles I'm mad over for being on hold with like one volume left in the series. They say it's licensing issues...which might be true. But still...
THIS. I remember Rurouni Kenshin was really nice because they released a volume every month. I loved it and bought every one. Other series though...
I remember when I realized that the American releases were about two years behind the recent Japan releases. I spent almost two weeks getting caught up on all my favorite stories. I'd even forgotten about the way things were until I was a camp counselor last summer and a bunch of my kids were fans of Naruto. I hadn't been reading for several months, so I asked them what was happening in it. What they described was so far behind from what I remembered.
I think space is a big issue as well though. I had to give away most of my stuff when I went to college. Just a single 20 volume series takes up a ton of space. As much as I like reading hard copies, sometimes digital copies are the way to go.
Haha, oh god I've just looked up at my shelf of graphic novels. I already have so many books (they're actually stacking up now), but I can't let them go. I own a Kindle and my laptop, so when I'm off to uni I might have to do what you've done and get digital copies of everything I might possibly want.
