This gives me even more reason not to fly

Flier: I was water deboarded

It wasn't what the doctor ordered.

A Manhattan surgeon said he was booted off a plane at La Guardia Airport yesterday after he asked for water for his pregnant wife when the cabin overheated.

Mitchell Roslin, of Lenox Hill Hospital, said he, his family and about 200 other passengers were stuck on the tarmac for more ( Read more... )

Flight attendants told him that it was "against corporate policy" to give out water before the plane took off...

*sigh* Sounds familiar. Pathetic.

I just flew domestically this past weekend (something I haven't done for a long while-my last plane trip was on British Airways) and I was really shocked at how blatant it now is that you are simply cattle filling a seat. My flights weren't delayed, everything was on time, it wasn't that sort of thing that got to me. It was just the whole general "sit down, shut up, don't ask for anything" attitude. My flight to LA (a 5 hour flight) left right at dinner time and I'd been running really late so was unable to grab some food to take on the plane beforehand. My only option as a vegetarian was to pay $6 for a plastic box of 3 sad pieces of cheese and 4 lonely Pepperidge Farm crackers. For my beverage I got a carton of milk just because I desperately needed more calories. My flight back east was a red-eye so I can understand not having a full food service but there was NO food available. None. And the carton of milk I again got as a beverage was... sour. I had to give it back and just made do with water instead ( ... )

Yike. Dare I ask which airline?

United and Continental (it's getting increasingly difficult to avoid various airlines as they all merge with one another willy-nilly, or code-share themselves into one single Uber-Airline).

The United flights were on busted-ass old Airbus planes too, which I've decided are actually designed by anti-capitalist terrorists who don't want anyone to ride in an airplane ever, ever again. They redefined the term "uncomfortable".

At this point I avoid the airport at all costs. I'd rather do a road trip.

I wish a *train* trip were more feasible on the coast-to-coast routes sometimes.

Isn't it tragic that how expensive train travel has become? I went over to Amtrak to check fares for the Calilfornia Zephyr and almost fainted.

here if you book early enough it's not so horrible - visiting my friend in Connecticut for $26 next week (which is more expensive than gas would be, if i think about it... and way more expensive than renting or buying a car :) )
