Google shuts down music blogs without warning

Bloggers told they have violated terms without further explanation, as years of archives are wiped off the internet

What's the difference? I use .com and haven't had any problems with it!

Lots of places have basic-level hosting for ~ $10/month.

As for free hosting, well, you get what you pay for (thank you, Google).
