I know, he very obviously went along with things he didn't really agree with to further his career. I don't blame him though and I'm really glad to see him turn around.
I get the feeling though, that much like yanking a tablecloth out from under a table setting, this isn't going to affect the Republican mindset at all. They'll just go and find someone else and say "WELL HE SUPPORTS DADT. WE SHOULD TOO!"
But hey, who gives a rats ass what the Republicans think! The more support for repealing DADT the better!
Oh, definitely- but at the same time, when the person they use as their go-to as "a non-biased member of the military" for almost every argument turns around and say, "Hey, yeah, repeal it, stupid", it makes them even more idiotic and confused.
And there are quite a few people who still look up to Powell, and with him saying this, I can hope that others across the aisle can do it too.
....who used Colin Powell as his excuse for approving it before. Yeah, McCain? Anyone who can't bother to understand that it's not a good idea to call Asians "gooks" anywhere, let alone to reporters? Yeah, time for the old folks home.

Still, I bet that a lot of the hardliners are going to say now "But McCain doesn't agree!" He is still the Good Old American Hero posterboy, right?
