While I agree with your sentiment 100%, I wish that were the real reason Iran might want to be in a position to attack Israel. The Palestians are by no means an Islamic people, just as the Iranians are not at all Arabic. In fact, there's a deep rooted hatred of the Arabs in Iran due to past conquering of Iran. If it were on matters like this alone, Iran and Israel might feel they'd have a common enemy - in a Communism, Nazism, Capitalism 1940s Hate-Triangle way.

I feel it's more to do with cold hard politics, the balance of power and resentment towards Israel's protected status which allows them to freely stock up on warheads giving them incredible clout in the area. Of course, this is a bad thing - the West should not be allowed to give Israel such leeway under the guise of "having a right to protect itself" and not afford the same to Iran. Israel are so stocked up now they could obliterate any country in the region they wanted with no possible repurcussions. What Iran is trying to do is inevitable. But I'm afraid Iran would see its Palestinian neighbours burn before giving up any sort of political positioning. They might not want Israel to exist, but I'm pretty sure they couldn't care less if Palestine took their place.
