She may have just waited because she didn't want to do it at a time it would extend the news focus on her family. Doing it now probably makes it much quiter with less cameras pointed at them.

In addition to what nope_de_plume said, I wonder if they might've been talking over the practicalities... who gets what property and so on... so they can go into the divorce proceedings with that basically settled and not have those disputes be public too.
