The hell of it is that if he/they do close GITMO, they will probably simply use some place else, like the places they export prisoners to for extraordinary renditions, which are even more secretive and shady. The sort of set up -- having a place outside US law, etc., -- is just too useful to them to completely get rid of. They'll just destroy it as a symbolic gesture to appease a certain demographic but keep on keepin' on, only elsewhere.
