It's still a problem in Japan. Anyone who reads a graphic novel in which school girls are the heroine knows about this stuff.

I'm just a little surprised that it seems to be catching on in other countries...with the same type of people and same name, "compensated dating."

I'm starting to wonder if it's hit the States and other places, yet.

compensated dating is still a big deal here, but one thing that definitely went out with the 90s [although it's only barely pulsating underground anymore] was selling schoolgirls' dirty knickers out of vending machines. D:

ha! i watched this movie called the informant, and it was set in the 90s. the main character did a lot of international traveling and one of his quips in the movie was about those dirty knickers vending machines.

ha! i heard so many bizarre stories about how those actually operate anymore...because of the recession it's pretty hard to get more than 8,000yen for a pair XD i just can't believe so many girls thought that was a great way to make extra cash back in the day :/
