Well as a resident in the area of upper East Tennessee and close to Wise County this really isn't shocking but it's like this all over the nation.

I just recently was able to enroll for healthcare at my job and I've without it for 3 years. Now I'm stuck with several bills from the ER which won't be paid anytime soon I'm afraid.

They also just had a free "health fair" like this in Austin. Lots of people showed up who couldn't otherwise afford the kind of basic health care offered there.

Ironically within a few days there was a "tea bag"-type protests of folks coming out to demonstrate against Obama's health care plan because the US has the best system in the world, they said.

Did you hear about that retired exec from Cigna that saw a fair like this, got disgusted with the industry (and himself,)and has been on the talk show circuit? He said that he saw people being treated in animal stalls and that's what broke him.

Fuck the tea baggers, they're so stupid they don't even know what they're protesting. I love it when they do it in public parks.

Yeah, that guy you mentioned was on the Bill Moyers Journal on PBS a couple of weeks ago, and they showed scenes from that fair. I was thinking of exactly that when I saw the scenes from this fair on the local news.

Him coming out was like the people from the CIA admitting they might actually maybe sort of be lying. A lot. One needs some good feelings during the day...

I'm so down with campaign finance reform, yet I wonder HOW it can even happen. It would be like asking me to legislate outlawing mushroom pizza and rootbeer.

I remember seeing a story about this on Bill Moyers like two year ago. He had originally started this to get health care to remote and rural parts of the developing world but now they do more and more work in the US and not just in rural areas like the Appalachian mountains region but places where you should, theoretically, be able to get health care but people can't it.

I hate to say it but I think that it would take a medically catastrophe along the scale of the Spanish influenza epidemic before people wake up and realize that this isn't cutting it. We NEED to do better but since everyone, according to republicans, who doesn't have healthcare doesn't deserve it because they're too lazy to go and make enough money to afford it then it's okay, right?

(The following is what I've learned from answering the phones at my job.)

But the health care system in this country isn't broken! That muslim is going to take away our choices! I think Obama's going to repeal the 2nd and 22nd Amendments next! You young people should pull yourselves up by your bootstraps and pay for your own health care like we do!
