"I have no disrespect for the president or anybody, they weren't meant in any bad way or harm."

No, of course not, you just think he's a *coughcensoredcough* and his wife's a savage.

"I don't see where there's a story, I'm not the only one that does it," he said. "I didn't originate them, they came to me and I just passed them on."

Everyone else is doing it, so it's OK if I do!! (Does he tell his kids that?)

"Another recipient of forwarded e-mails along with Frago, Don Cherf, a former grand knight in Merced's Knights of Columbus chapter, said he didn't recall seeing the e-mails either. But he said the e-mail about Michelle Obama posing for National Geographic was not derogatory. "It's just a joke, there's nothing slanderous meant," he said. "I feel you are reading it wrong. It's not meant (to be) derogatory."

PLZ EXPLAIN HOW YOU MEANT IT, ASSHAT!

Nah, they've been here. They just see the Obama presidency as a reason that they should become more prominent.

Okay, I think these kinds of jokes are stupid and offensive...

BUT.

People have the right to say them, provided they also are aware of other people's right to criticise them for it. We can't go around acting like the thought police, jumping down everyone's throat who finds something off-colour funny and demanding their resignation. It's dangerous and I think it can be detrimental in the long run because it makes these people into martyrs and reinforces a persecution complex that a lot of racists seem to have.

But it's not illegal to forward racist jokes. It's morally questionable, but so are a lot of things.

I'm not saying it's okay to do what they've done. I'm saying that our response has to be measured in order to not empower the anti-PC movement further.

Frago, 63, who was the city's first paid firefighter and has been on the City Council since 2000, said the e-mails were not meant to harm anyone. He has nothing against black people or the president, he said.

"I don't see where there's a story, I'm not the only one that does it," he said. "I didn't originate them, they came to me and I just passed them on."

Therefore, he shouldn't be held accountable for sending the email. Riiiiiiiiiiight! Don't hold me responsible for my actions, 'cause everyone else is doing it too. *blinks*
