the conventional wisdom among Palin’s supporters in the Republican establishment was that she should go home, keep her head down, show that she could govern effectively, and quietly educate herself about foreign and domestic policy with the help of a cadre of experienced advisers.
See, this is what gets me about her. If she were a smart politician, this is exactly what she'd do. I don't like her, but I would think better of her as a politician if she'd go home, govern the SHIT out of Alaska, and give it an election or two before she runs again. Why the FUCK would anyone want to vote for a former governor who leaves their state in an appalling condition? If I'm going to vote for a former governor, I want to be able to see that he or she has run their state well, not spent the majority of it preening for national cameras and skivving off whenever they can.
I mean, I get why she's trying to keep herself in the public eye, but for crying out, she's the first female VP the Republicans have had. As ignorant and repugnant as she can be and as stupid as she makes us look on the national stage, she made history. Come on, for real. They're not going to forget you, go home and attempt to actually do your job for a change.

As a Massachusetts resident, that's pretty much exactly my reaction to Mitt Romney's presidential bid.
Yeah, when most people were either lawling at Romney or taking him very seriously last year during the primaries, I noticed a startling number of Masachusetts residents pretty much had the reaction of "OH GOD NO FUCK NO HE'S AWFUL TERRIBLE BAD BAD BAD."
