I just want to say that I LOVE Okinawa. I was stationed there for a year and it was hands down my favorite place that I was ever stationed.

This is SO stupid. No one is having babies here in Japan. Japanese women are having like one baby in their entire lives. How are they going to survive if they are doing this to their foreign workers?

Honestly!!

We should stop letting unskilled laborers into Japan. We should make sure that even the three-K jobs are paid well, and that they are filled by Japanese,” he said. “I do not think that Japan should ever become a multiethnic society.

Japan is already a multiethnic society...and can only survive as immigrants come in greater numbers. So many of my students now are half Fillipino or half Chinese...they need to wake up and realize that closing themselves in is not going to help at all.

If you're going to be a xenophobic ass, at least own it. Don't blame it on another country: then not only are you a xenophobic ass, you're a xenophobic, weak willed ass.

In addition, it's easy for us in America to shake our heads and tsk-tsk at the Japanese... but realistically, dangerously close to half of us would jump at the chance to deport immigrants, legal and otherwise, from This Great Country of Ours as well. Without payment.

But isn't your entire population, with the exception of native Americans, a bunch of immigrants?

Yeah, that's the ironic thing, they want to deport all immigrants forgetting that their ancestors weren't from here unless they really Native Americans.

I read about this in the Japan Times, and David Arudo had a big Op-Ed on this, showing how Japan had pretty much failed all around with the Nikkei because they were like, "They're Japanese! They'll magically fit right in because of their Japanese blood!" and so had no support whatsoever. *headdesk*

Debito Arudo has got to be having a field day with this.

Lots of people are like, "They're Japanese!" even I tend to think that way before I realize, that culturally, they're South American.

I did meet a sweet old lady once from Brazil. She was Japanese and was telling me about how hard it was for her to learn Spanish and then she told me she wanted to speak English as nicely as me... /digression.
