MSNBC gives radio host Ed Schultz the 6pm slot
And don't worry David Shuster fans- he will be getting an earlier time slot and 2 full hours.
MSNBC is adding another liberal voice to it’s evening line-up: The network has hired radio host Ed Schultz to take over the 6 p.m. spot currently held by David Shuster.
A network source confirms the move, and it’s expected that Keith Olbermann will make an announcement toward the end of “Countdown” tonight-he gave a couple hints at the start of the show. (Schultz, on his website, mentioned appearing on "Countdown" later).
The New York Observer recently reported that Schultz was negotiating with MSNBC, but it was unclear whether it was for 6pm, 10pm or another time altogether. News of Schultz' move first broke earlier on Salon.
Recently, Schultz guest-hosted "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue," so there have been rumors the radio host was being groomed for that time. As for the 10pm slot, MSNBC president Phil Griffin said this week that despite interest from several liberal hosts, the network plans to continue running the "Countdown" repeat for the immediate future.
Schultz received some attention during Obama's first East Room presser when he was given a seat in the front row. And having been asked about it by POLITICO, Schultz fired back the next day on his radio show.

I think this is awesome. MSNBC is going after the Southern Democrat crowd! Ed Schultz's Wiki describes his radio show as, 'The Ed Schultz Show, a nationally syndicated U.S. talk radio show promising "straight talk from the heartland" from a "gun-totin', red meat-eatin' lefty.' Schultz considers himself a "progressive liberal". As such, his talk show is generally considered to be a liberal-leaning program. He is pro-union and centers a large portion of his radio show on the "plight of working class Americans". He has also repeatedly stated that he is a liberal Democrat willing to change political parties upon necessity.
