"The United States has assimilated Muslims into its society more successfully than Western Europe-and over a longer period. Arabs began migrating to the United States in great numbers during the second half of the 19th century. Western Europe's Arab migration didn't start until after World War II, when many arrived as guest workers."

This is interesting. All four of my mother's grandparents and their children immigrated to the U.S. from Lebanon between the turn of the 20th Century (1900) and the start of WWI (1914). They were Arab (but Christian). And they were all well-off; they'd owned small businesses in Lebanon and began small businesses when they came to the United States.

The reason we don't antagonize our Muslim population to the extent Europe does is because we focus on our Mexican population instead...and before them, the Chinese...and before them, the Irish.

The U.S. pretty much antagonizes any race, group, or person who is socio-economically less prosperous than the norm by blaming them for their socioeconomic status.

Europe would have a lot more luck if Muslims weren't largely confined to ghettos.
