Publishers jump at Plouffe book

More than 18 publishers have expressed interest in a book that former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe is writing in an unusual dual appeal to political and business audiences.

Obama wrote “The Audacity of Hope,” and Plouffe’s book is tentatively titled “The Audacity to Win.”

The Obama campaign was a billion-dollar business, and Plouffe plans to write about the use of technology, grassroots organizing, crisis management, use of the Web, public relations and personnel.

Plouffe, who has not yet written the book, plans to meet with publishers in coming weeks. The book will likely be published in the fall of 2009.

Robert Barnett, who also represents the President-elect, the Secretary of State-designate, the Commerce Secretary-designate, the soon-to-be Health and Human Services Secretary-designate, and the National Economic Adviser-designate, among others, will handle the project for Plouffe.

Plouffe - a father of two, including a newborn - has also signed on with the Washington Speakers Bureau to give paid speeches around the world. He also plans to do some non-governmental private consulting.

During Obama’s election-night acceptance speech in Chicago’s Grant Park, the president-elect thanked “my campaign manager, David Plouffe, the unsung hero of this campaign, who built the best political campaign, I think, in the history of the United States of America.”

From Plouffe’s official bio: “As executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the 1999-2000, Plouffe led a focused national campaign that moved a record $95 million to House races across the country, and helped add to the party's membership in the House of Representatives. Prior to joining the DCCC, Plouffe served as Democratic leader Richard Gephardt's Deputy Chief of Staff in 1997-1998. He joined Leader Gephardt after managing the successful campaign to fill Bill Bradley's seat in the U.S. Senate for Bob Torricelli, the most hotly contested U.S. Senate race in the 1996 cycle.

“Plouffe served as the Campaign Director at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Director in 1995, joining the DSCC after managing a U.S. Senate race in Delaware in 1994 for Attorney General Charlie Oberly against Senator Bill Roth. Plouffe also successfully managed Congressman John Olver's first reelection bid in western Massachusetts in 1992 and served as a State Field Director for Senator Tom Harkin's Presidential campaign in the 1992 cycle, after serving as the Deputy Field Director in Harkin's successful 1990 U.S. Senate race.”.
