What is this craziness doing in my morning paper?

I was talking to my mom over breakfast this morning about how classy a lot of Republicans are being about the election results... and then I turned to the op-ed page of the Philadelphia Inquirer and read this bit of FAIL:

White guilt? Done; over; historyTom Adkins ( Read more... )

race / racism, opinion piece, white people, barack obama

(Also, uhhhh, the majority of whites voted for McCain.)

True, but they always vote GOP in nationals.

The BIG news is that Obama got the highest white vote of any Democratic candidate in decades, INCLUDING Bill Clinton. Something like 46% of the white vote.

No prob. I might be off a percentage point, but I think it was 46. I think Kerry got 43% of the white vote.

Anyhow, that makes me feel good. :o)

Uhhhhh.

But if a black man can become president, exactly what significant barrier is left? The election of Barack Obama destroys the validation of liberal white guilt. The dragon is hereby slain.

Right, because by electing a black president, there are no more racist people in America. The fuck is wrong with you, Adkins?

This almost sounds like the argument some white people use to say they aren't racists "Well, I have a black friend!" will now be "Well, I voted for Obama!"

y'know, I've been thinking for a while now that that's going to become the new "I have a black friend."

"No way, man! I'm not racist! I voted for Obama! I am absolved!"

jigga WHAT???????????? I mean, I kind of understand why someone would write this, but he is using every wrong phrase and word available. "'The Man' is now black"??? Just because Obama won by a couple million votes doesn't mean that our 'racial barrier' has been destroyed. Racism is still STRONG in this country, and it's not even about racism against blacks either - clearly this guy missed the whole "Obama is a Muslim" dramarama.

Sigh!!! lol
