Last minute push for Florida
11/3/2008 5:27:52 AM

Jimmy Buffett held a concert in support of Barack Obama, while Rudy Giuliani was in the Bay area backing John McCain.  It's all part of a last minute push to win Florida. Tampa, Florida - The Ford Amphitheatre was packed with more than 20,000 Jimmy Buffett fans who gathered for an Obama rally. Buffett is endorsing the Democratic candidate for President. "We're just happy to be here to support Senator Obama and see Jimmy Buffett. It's a great day," James Perry, an avid Buffett fan. Kara Smith is 38 years old and voted for the first time in her life this year. She cast her ballot for Barack Obama. "First Buffett show, first political rally, I'm very excited," she said. Florida is key in this election and the Sunshine State and Jimmy Buffett go hand-in-hand, much like Obama's message and Buffett's lyrics. "Changes in Lattitudes, changes in Attitudes because we all need a change from the last eight years and I think Obama is the best way to go," said Perry. USF student Andrew Goldman just came for the concert. He is still an undecided voter. "Whoever we pick, we're getting screwed either way," said Goldman.

The Republicans also brought in a slugger to hit a home run for their team just before Super Tuesday. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani visited Square One Burgers in Tampa along with Florida Governor Charlie Crist, in support of McCain. [rofl] "Right now we need John McCain more than he needs us," said Giuliani. Fred Stephen came to see Giuliani and believes these celebrity appearances leading up the Election can make a difference in the Bay area. "A lot of people around here are from the New York area, the people that came over with us are from New Jersey, they love Rudy," said Stephen. A CNN Poll shows Obama with a four-point lead over McCain in Florida. However, Giuliani was quick to point out that John Kerry had a six-point lead in the polls here in the Sunshine State before the 2004 election and still lost the state. "It's all about you the voters of Florida and who you choose. Who do you believe is prepared to handle an America that is facing an economic crisis and is facing a significant challenge from Islamic terrorists. I think John McCain is far and away much better qualified to do that," said Giuliani.
