It's really not your fault, I'm not sure if UK unions have similar legal processes, and if they don't that explains the misstep, but they really should be more careful.
And iac. Generally The Guardian is a reputable source (the only thing I've side-eyed there so far are their editorials against Corbyn as they have taken a really pro-Blair stance). So this is really disappointing of them.
It really isn't your fault. I thought it was a lawsuit too. I don't know how credible the Guardian is, but BBC and Sports illustrated both included the possibility of a lawsuit in their articles, but they didn't make it explicitly clear that this grievance was not a lawsuit. In my personal opinion, I hope he wins any grievance claim. However, in my amateur legal opinion (from watching every episode of the Good Wife), i'm not sure that he has much of a case if he does file a lawsuit, since it would be a defamation lawsuit.
Looking back through my old posts, there was another article about legal matters a while back which was rather bad (they cited TMZ, of all sources, so yeah).

In general The Guardian is really good as I said above (I really like their international coverage) so this is really disappointing of them.
