Yeah this user is really disgusting. Their homophobia is really something.

When I commented that their constantly posting only in Russian made a lot of what they were posting incomprehensible they said I should learn Russian (on an English-language comm, no less).

I wouldn't be surprised to see them pop up in racism or misogyny posts as well.

FWIW, I've decided to ignore their sad little self, since they are trolling so very *very* hard.

I have told you. Visibility matters. Representation matters. When Ellen got a talk show, people in America who might have not otherwise gotten meet a lesbian invited one into their living rooms every day. Shows like Modern Family ain't perfect, but it normalizes homosexuality. It lets the rest of the world understand that they're just like us. Getting to know LGBTQ people, having LGBTQ family members helps because some people don't have empathy and they don't care about shit unless it affects them or someone close to them. As long as there are propaganda laws, as long as LGBTQ people live in fear of being hunted and tortured (because it happens in Russia too, not just Chechnya), they can't live openly. They can't come out to their family. The average Russian citizen WON'T get to know their gay, lesbian, bi, and trans neighbors as long as they have to live in fear. If you take away the propaganda laws, allow LGBTQ citizens to speak candidly and openly, put them on TV, let them have parades, that's a step in the right direction. Pride

люди жили в аду после развала Советского Союза. и только начали выползать из неопределенности и строить свой новый мир. перестали зависеть от помощи других стран.
вы могли себе позволить хиппи, наркоманов, борцов за мир, "у меня есть свое личное пространство" и т.д.. вы плавно и спокойно приходили к тому, что у вас есть сейчас. и вы признаете, что у вас есть проблемы с восприятием ЛГБТ сообщества.
дайте время и россиянам прийти к этому. не нужно радикальных мер сейчас.

Also, keep in mind that because of the propaganda laws and violently homophobic climate in your country, LGBTQ Russians CAN'T take to the streets to march for their rights OR the rights of their Chechen brothers and sisters. Protests are an important part of any democracy. I'm grateful I live in a country where we can march through the streets for our rights, where we can have dance parties

And yes I'm aware police in this country treat predominantly white protests and demonstrations different than Black demonstrations, and that's a serious problem. I speak out against human rights violations in our country, and I will also speak out against human rights violations abroad. I grew up in the Unitarian Universalist Church, where social justice is a central tenet. Our youth group (which by the way, we had a gay youth group leader and also a bisexual man co-taught our sex ed class) joined Amnesty International. We would watch documentaries about human rights violations around the world and

I have no idea what you're talking about. If you watched the video, you would have seen that 99% of the people in the video were wearing coats and sweatshirts and 100% of the people in the video were appropriately covered.

I don't have a problem with self expression.
