White male Repubs can say anything. can you imagine anyone if Hillary Clinton or even Condi Rice saying "I didn't want this job" without the media going hog wild? I can't or can I imagine them saying that. Ridiculous.

A slightly different take: Trump doesn't see the need for a Department of State or a Secretary of State, as he's such a good negotiator that he'll take care of that stuff himself. Tillerson realized that going in, and that this would be a job without any actual power, but it'll look nice on his resume and Trump will reward him in other ways for taking it.
