Dylann Roof jury: Death penalty for Charleston church shooter

Jan 10, 2017 14:10

I consider myself pretty liberal, but I support the jury's decision here.

yeah, same. I tend to fall under "rabidly against capital punishment" category--- but.... fuck man, he did it. He said he did. He said he would do it again. No remorse. No empathy. It's really hard for me to feel a smidgen of morality for someone this ruthless.

I'm not rabidly against it, but this case is one where Capital Punishment is the only appropriate sentence. Murder is bad enough, to kill commit it in a house of worship, to sit through that service and still do what he did...I feel no remorse for saying that he deserves the harshest punishment our society can administer.

Here's my agreement as well.

I'm not in favor of the death penalty on the whole, but it does exist, we do have it, and this waste of skin is exactly the kind of perpetrator it was intended for.

If it was up to me, the death penalty would be relegated to the attic with other artifacts of history, but as long as it still exists, it might as well be used the way it was intended. And Roof ticks ALL the boxes on the list of criteria for whether someone should be given the death penalty, so it would actually be kind of a farce for him to not get it.

Me too. I just wish they would start prosecuting stochastic terrorism as an actual crime, before right wing hate media just produces more Dylan Roofs.Yes I know it might be difficult to do, but the first amendment only goes so far to protect hate speech. We shouldn't be squeamish about working to stop actual Nazis from stirring up actual violence.
