Eh, as long as it's "only" proven to be propaganda and not alteration of the results, I guess it's fair play. I doubt there will ever be a smoking gun that points right back to the Kremlin. Even if there was, some old general would just retire early and leave Putin and the rest of the SVR to go about their business. That's international politics. Everyone does it, just most countries suck less at getting caught.

What's more disturbing to me than Russia's active measures is how many American hawks at the highest levels knew about it during the election campaign and just decided to look the other way. Presumably because having their party win was more important to them than standing up for their principles. It's shameful how cynical the Republicans played it this cycle. Or, you know, maybe their politics really has changed and they like the whole idea of America becoming an anti-democratic capitalist oligarchy whose leader pals around with foreign strongmen.

Propaganda really isn't fair play.

I don't know about that. I mean, I hate that the sleazy drip-dripping of nothingburger scandals to the mainstream media basically cost Hillary the election, but it's hard for me to call it "unfair". Manipulative? Sure. Misleading? Yep. Inciting violence? Perhaps. But in America pretty much every form of speech is constitutionally protected, so just because it's deplorable doesn't mean it's illegal, especially when it's coming from sources outside the government.

Sure, you could blame foreign intelligence agencies for trying it in the first place... But, eh. Then this isn't the first election we should be mad at the Russians about. And half of the rest of the world can pull out receipts about America too.

Manipulative, misleading, and actively harmful misinformation that interferes in another country's election seems like a very good example of "unfair". It's despicable when the US tries it and it's despicable when other countries try it. Whether it's the "norm" or legal are irrelevant. It doesn't need to be illegal to do irreparable damage to my rights as a minority in the US, and so it doesn't need to be illegal for me to call it by what's probably the politest (and relatively sugarcoated) term for it: unfair.

One of my acquaintances on another site actually said in a group skype chat when someone posted about this 'why is this news?'. I mean she's been posting a lot of stuff that is making it sound like her head is progressively going farther and farther up Trump's ass but that really took the cake. I mean yes, most of us suspected it but if there's proof then how the hell can we sit by and trust the election's results?

Ask her if it would be news if Russia tried to influence the election in HRC's favor.

A surprising number of people seem happy to shrug this off.

I can believe it.
In any other democracy (especially in the West) they would redo the election
