There is an objective difference, though: Republicans want to shift power to whichever level of government is currently interested in making the rich richer, while Democrats want to shift power to whichever level of government is currently interested in making things better for a large number of people. Democrats have certainly supported some "make the rich richer" initiatives over the years, but it's never been their consistent top priority as it has for the Republicans.
