White privilege really is a huge huge huge thing. This is so disgusting.

I'll just leave this here, to contrast the way in which two standoffs were/are being dealt with:

The way indigenous (UNARMED AND NONVIOLENT, unlike the a**holes above) protesters against the Dakota pipeline are being treated is nothing short of shameful.

Saw this in today's paper.

HOW.

If these had been black or middle-eastern-looking guys, they'd be in jail for years on end.

They should have been convicted of SOMETHING for this-- criminal trespass and illegal possession of firearms in a public place, if nothing else.

And their mouthy, privileged lawyer... needs a smackdown. Ugh.

If they were non-white or appeared to be they would have been shot dead and never made it to trial. =/

I know it would set a horrible precedent, but I'm starting to think those members of the jury should be charged with willful ignorance or some such thing because how in the ever-loving hell could they not see that this was absolutely a committed crime and that these idiots were 100% guilty?

Yes-- I think there would have been an armed shootout the first day of the incident, had the perpetrators not been white.

I wonder if the trial outcome was damaged by overreaching. As in, going for the heaviest possible charge-- whether or not it really fit-- instead of charges that unquestionably matched the crime. Because this WAS a crime.

And assholes like the Bundys do not deserve to just walk away from their messes. :(
