Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein is expected to face charges for alleged vandalism or trespassing at a North Dakota construction site.

Authorities say Stein spray painted construction equipment while protesting alongside approximately 200 people at a Dakota Access Pipeline work site on Tuesday, according to a report in the Bismarck Tribune.

Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier said the sheriff’s department is "working up the information through the state’s attorney’s office to pursue charges" against Stein. It's unclear whether the charges would be felonies or misdemeanors.

Two protesters reportedly affixed themselves to bulldozers and other materials. On Tuesday afternoon, Kirchmeier said “the incident is actually still ongoing as we speak.”

Although no arrests have yet been made, he added: “We are actively investigating these incidents, either by video or social media to identify people that have taken place in this. We will pursue charges as needed.”

Stein is currently polling low, earning 3 percentage points compared with the other major presidential candidates, according to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average.

This is a pretty honourable reason to face charges imo. Thoughts on the Dakota pipeline protests?
