lol no I've never had a supply kit. and, growing up in Florida, I've never even stocked up for a hurricane.

Really? Wow, I just have to deal with rain and snow storms every couple of years and I keep a case of water and far bit of can food. I couldn't imagine living in a place like that and not having a ton of stuff just in case.

yeah, idk. I guess it comes from a long childhood of being tossed into a panic and then it's just another damn storm. I'm in South Florida, our homes are pretty solidly prepared for it and our electrical grid too, it's not like it is in more northern areas, I guess. We get massive thunderstorms nearly every day in the summer, to me hurricanes are just like longer storms that make me sleepy (because the barometric pressure drops sharply). I can't tell you how many hurricanes I've slept through.

Now, when I was snowed in for a couple weeks living in Oregon and had to live on corner store poptarts, that was the only time I wish I'd stocked up. Hurricanes really don't faze me, the biggest worry is how long the power will be out because it's fucking hot down here.

I guess it really does come down to what you're used to but I am glad to hear your area is mostly safe from storms. and yes without fans mine would be not worth living right now

I mean, we're in the prime hurricane zone, but I think we're just better equipped to handle it

oh man heatwaves in places without air conditioning are hellish. like EVERYWHERE in Florida has AC I had no idea until I was an adult that there were places where it was common not to have it

Up here in Washington we don't have it in most homes but then save for a couple weeks a year we don't need it. heaters on the other hand are a lifesaver.

Not all of Florida is as well prepared as your area, it seems. Pensacola gets no love when it comes to hurricane coverage but that were hit several years in a row in the mid 2000s. And I gotta say that summer power outages due to a storm in Florida will remind you what a blessing a.c. is and have you checking with all your friends to see if anyone has power.

Growing up, we always had hurricane supplies on hand because it's the same stuff you need if there's a power outage. Never struck me as a big deal since you just buy things in advance when they're on sale, like flashlights and batteries, canned goods, etc. Nowadays I'd add extra power packs for a cell phone.
