My heart is breaking into a million pieces and I'm so damn bitter because I know they're going to find some stupid way to spin this officer's actions.

I already know that the narrative is going to be "we don't have all the info yet, we don't know HOW he declared he had a gun" to "well we don't have footage of how he said it" and "even if he said it like that, here are five different ways he could have worded it in a way that would be less intimidating/ambiguous."

You're exactly right and it's so infuriating.

I also bet you he'll be temporarily suspended with pay while we're at it.

That's already happened. (Tbh this part bothers me LEAST because it's due to the union rules, not a lenient decision on the part of his department or something - if an officer is accused of something but hasn't been convicted, he still has to be paid. What's disgusting is that because there's never a conviction in these cases, it always ends up being a paid vacation.)

Does anyone know if Lavish Reynolds has been released from police custody yet?

What a nightmare that poor woman is living, her boyfriend was slaughtered in front of her and her child, and the band of thugs who did it took her away in cuffs.

I think about my little nephews who are 3 and 5 witnessing their father get murdered and it is so upsetting. That little girl will not only grow up without a father but will have the trauma of being there for his murder. It's so beyond awful.

I was listening to a Richard Pryor bit today from the early/mid seventies where he talks about how white people can be casual with police but black people have to act like "I'M TAKING MY LICENSE OUT OF MY POCKET!" It was done for laughs but it hit me how forty years later it's the SAME SHIT.

How many more people have to die before something changes? My heart is so heavy. :( How can we stop this?

one reason why i can't stand the ~when whatever generation finally dies, shit will be better~ spiel is because how long have Black folk been for cops not to shoot us or to be seen as human beings who have complex feelings? at this rate black people will be waiting even after the enlightened young people living now are gone.
