why do we still have a draft at all?

I'm sure the MRAs who are frothing at the mouth at the idea of women being killed in combat are thrilled about this

I don't think there will ever be a draft because its such a push button war now.

I saw some MRAs complaining on twitter about this, actually. The gendered draft has been one of their primary arguments about how men are sooooo oppressed (ignoring the fact that basically everyone thinks the draft should be abolished). These doofuses were grousing that women want to be oppressed just like them so they're getting themselves drafted.

Either get rid of the draft all together or add women to it. it's only fair.

I hope they get rid of the draft to be honest.

I would be okay with that.

It would be much better to get rid of the Draft altogether, but this seems fine I guess. If it was motivation to get rid of the draft altogether though lets use it and be done with it once and for all.

The part where they want to spend even more money on the military and get more soldiers though? No thanks.

That's the one good thing about the draft existing though? As it is now, only poor and working class people sign up to join the military bc the military offers to pay for their school, promise a decent career, etc. The more well-off people have a choice to not bother at all, or get cushy jobs / perks and never have to worry about frontline combat. Which helps enable the top brass to see soldiers as disposable because they're just poor people and can be replaced. At least when the draft was in practice a lot more people were anti-war bc there was no guarantee you wouldn't be picked.

Which is mostly true, except that in practice the rich and well-connected got student deferments, fake medical excuses, and stints in the National Guard to keep them out of Vietnam.

The National Guard isn't an escape hatch anymore now that it's being used overseas like any other branch. I'd been planning to sign up for the National Guard until that happened.

I'm okay with this.

I am also okay with a law that states all government people that vote for and enable foreign wars must submit the names of their children for immediate recruitment. I suspect we would have less conflicts in this case.

I don't think you realize how many professional soldiers became politicians.

They're probably not the ones that come from poor / minority backgrounds though.

Correct me if I am wrong.

It depends honestly, because the one thing about the military is classism isn't as prevalent as in the rest of the country, so upward mobility isn't as dependent on class. Racism is still alive and well however.

But my point is that those politicians would be happy to put their kids in the military (a lot of them would love to force their children into the military despite their children's wishes), because they agree with the military, so the conflicts wouldn't deescalate at all (that's ignoring the fact that those employees can influence their children's placement, and the biggest issue of the complete unconstitutionality of such a decree)

There's nothing good about a draft and it should be abolished altogether, not expanded in the name of "equality".
