John Kasich Confused About Why Women Objected To His Sexual Assault Victim-Blaming Comments

Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) said on Sunday that he does not understand the criticism over his comments Friday suggesting that college women should prevent sexual assaults by avoiding parties with alcohol.
In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, the Republican presidential hopeful noted that his own daughters will someday go to college parties where there ( Read more... )

well tbh i don't know what a trump presidency will look like so i can't say if he's going to be just as bad as trump. does trump really mean to introduce things into policy like building that wall, banning muslims from entering, etc? or is that just rhetoric he is using to rally up his racist, xenophobic base and playing them like a fiddle? idk and tbh he will never be president. you don't get elected with a 70%+ unfavourably rating with women.

but kasich shares a lot more in common with trump than he let's on. for example, if you remember trump said he is pro-life and when pushed, said women should be punished for getting abortions if abortions become illegal. kasich feigned outrage over this and acted all shocked. but generally he refuses to engage with reporters when they begin to ask specific questions about his abortion stance & there's a reason for this. as governor of ohio he's done more than virtually anyone to make access to abortion near IMPOSSIBLE in his state. he's signed 17 antiabortion measures into law since 2011, one of which disallows abortion even in cases of rape and incest and only allows abortion if the fetus can't survive outside the womb (you can read more about this here https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/03/25/john-kasichs-abortion-policies-in-ohio-pro-life-except-for-rape-incest-and-life-of-the-mother/). the point here is that kasich WANTS abortion to be illegal in this country. and when you make an action illegal, you have to have a punishment for those who do it. and as much as kasich will say he doesn't want the woman to be punished - sure, maybe she won't be fined or put into prison, but she will ultimately be punished for not getting an abortion and being forced to have a child she didn't want. so his stance isn't different than trump here.

and tbh i don't think kasich's foreign policy would be much different than trump or cruz (again it's hard to say with trump - he's an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about. is he really going to let japan and south korea develop nuclear weapons? it's hard to tell with trump what is actual policy he'd introduce, what he says because he's an idiot and has no clue what he's talking about, or what he says just to rally up his base). i definitely think kasich is just as bad as cruz. his rhetoric isn't as outrageous (he won't say we need to have special police patrolling muslim neighbourhoods) but i believe there will be few things he will do differently than cruz.

thank you for this comment, this is exactly how i feel. i'm still forever bitter about senate bill 5 and i'm surprised it hasn't come up more during his candidacy.

yes omg i remember that. i haven't heard a thing about it. it's incredibly frustrating. it's like the outrageous things trump SAYS outweigh the outrageous things cruz and kasich have actually DONE. not to say that trump's rhetoric is not poisonous and dangerous, but because of the way he presents himself and the way the republican establishment feigns outrage over it (even though he only says BLUNTLY what they've been insinuating and enacting for years) has made the media portray cruz & kasich as some sort of moderate saviours. and as a result, there is little examination of their record because we're all too busy talking about memes trump has retweeted
