ontd_crime afaik never took off and hasn't been updated since 2012. would the mods be amenable to including some crime stories as passable in this comm? I mean the justice system is really impossible to divorce from the political system.

well there's a story out of my family's hometown about a cold case that was solved a few years ago, but the new county prosecutor has a grudge against the old country prosecutor and is trying to get the conviction overturned to make a national name for himself in his reelection year. idk, the post would take some gathering together and would probably teeter on being an ontd_p original because one of my sources is the former mayor of the town (who is, lol, my uncle) but if I made a post I would put together more sources than just "my friend with a bike" lmao

all right, I think I actually posted about the original conviction on this case to this comm years ago when he was first convicted (57 years after the fact)

and I just checked, oh shit -- the conviction was indeed overturned. This is actually really upsetting as my family is extremely close to this case. the little girl murdered was a friend of my mother as children and my grandfather as the town dentist identified the remains.

I'll try to gather together a post this week now that I'm done with my thesis.

We used to get so many terrible and /unusual crime stories in here that they crowded out all the political discussion posts. I'd rather revive ONTD_crime and move all the news of nefarious doings without political/cultural ties there.

I am not a mod but I have definitely seen crime-but-not-political related posts here, and I've been around since 2009. (Dear gods, has it been that long? Wow.)
