I don't know how common it is in my area, but I know that there's been a few women-- and girls-- that purpsefully get knocked up because that is the only way they can get any kind of assistance. And that is extremely fucked up, but if that's the only way they can afford enough to eat I can't blame them too much. My area is rural, so there's few jobs. You have to drive an hour or more to get to most jobs, and that's a lot of costs that pile up with gas, car insurance, maintenance, etc. Apartments are like $600/mo for a tiny studio that doesn't include utilities in the cities and towns, so you have to live in the middle of nowhere to afford any kind of room for families.

I don't know why they think starving people is going to magically make everyone find enough work to feed themselves. 20 hrs/week at minimum wage in PA is roughly $580/mo before taxes. How in the ever-lovin' hell is anyone supposed to live on that? Years ago I once figured out a budget for if I lived on my own in a nearby city. Using the bare minimum needed to survive and lowest cost options available-- no TV, basic internet, no heat, renting only a room, etc.-- I would have had to make $20/hr to afford it. That's insane.

The fact that the US has starving citizens, citizens that they put in this position, disgusts me.
