Poor Germany. Right wing sentiment seems to be everywhere in Europe these days...

This is so sad, but not entirely unexpected ( ... )

Also it is really weird for me to suddenly support Merkel in this. She has been in power since I was eligible to vote, but I have never once voted for her party. I always was opposed to her politics or felt like she was very opportunistic and only took a stance on something when she knew she had public opinion behind her. I'm so surprised that she kept her firm stance on open boarders for so long, even after most of Europe and a lot of people in her own party turned against her, and argued with basic human decency and compassion. It feels weird to agree with your chancellor for once. But the last immigration reform is going into the wrong direction, so I guess I won't feel this way much longer :/.

Interesting to have your POV. :)

What last reform are you speaking of? The agreements with the rest of Europe? (Just wondering.)

This is no longer becoming an issue of human rights. This has become an issue in which Germany literally cannot hope to sustain so many asylum seekers.

Thank you for making a post about Germany.

Sadly, I was pretty unsurprised by the results. I thought the polls were pretty accurate, weren't they? What I didn't understand was, why politicians and newssites labeled this a "shock".

The only positiv aspect seems to be the result in RLP. I hoped for lower AFD results in BW also :(.

You're so welcome!

I suppose politicians always hope the polls got it wrong? (My tentative hypothesis anyways... :)
