Move over Tinder! Bernie Sanders Singles dating site is where the cool kids are at!
A Bernie Sanders dating site crashed yesterday after receiving over a million visitors on it’s first day.
A web site that claims to match up Bernie Sanders supporters for romantic interludes and relationships has been inundated by so much traffic that the site was forced to display an announcement on their front page redirecting people to their Facebook Group page.
The berniesingles.com front page reads:
WE WENT VIRAL!
We’re now trending on Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. We reached 1000 members in less than an hour… Which means, upgrade server time! We have our team working nonstop.
The site apparently links Bernie Sanders supporters with other supporters looking for love - the only qualifications apparently required are that members #feelthebern.
The Facebook group, which requires that members be approved, is filled with Bernie memes and ardent Bernie supporters. And while on the surface the site and Facebook group appear to be a dating site, the usual kissy and muscle flexing pics aren’t as prominent as one would expect from a dating site. Instead, what seems to be happening on the page is a younger generation speaking and sharing intelligently about Bernie Sanders as a viable candidate for the 2016 election - including some who are self-admitted registered Republicans.
The Description of the group reads:
Do you love Bernie? Do you need a lover? Let’s play! (But play by the rules. This isn’t a lawless land of love.)
The short intro is followed by a list of rules that include no nudity, pornographic images, or harassment with a call for “common decency.”
Rule number 4 reads:
Treat others with respect. “What would Bernie do?” is a great motto to live by. This entails no harassing people over gender or sexual preference, race, or appearance. Support each other, we’re all Bernie lovers.
As with any group or online community, the occasional troll gets in and manages to display their ignorance for all to see, as seen by posts such as this:
Hey ladies! Single white male here looking for that special someone so we can “Feel the Bern” together. Not just when we pee. please be 420 friendly because I smoke a lot of pot. Also my ideal match would be on EBT, have section 8 housing, and at least two kids (tax season is always best with more kids) I have a car and a job (pizza delivery specialist)

Protesting (lots of white guilt)
Making my own clothing
Growing my dreadlocks out
Putting multicolored beads in my hair
And finger painting.

Colten Caudle, a student at Arizona State University is the site’s founder. When asked about why he founded the site he said, “I created the website after seeing interest from a Facebook group called Bernie Sanders Dank Meme Singles, which at the time had about 500 members.” Caudle goes on to explain, “I jokingly made a post about starting a website and, after a lot of positive interest, I decided to take on the project” pointing to the over 5000 members his group has as of Wednesday.
The site launched last night and received over 1000 registrations in less than an hour and over 1 million hits to the site, causing the website to crash.
According to Caudle, a team of 10 volunteer coders are working to get it back up as soon as possible.
Caudle attributes the traffic to organic growth and social media, telling Liberals Unite, “We have not done any advertising outside of the Dank Meme group, all the hype thus far has been generated from the public. I did in fact meet my current girlfriend from this venture, so I personally know that it can work for people.”
According to Caudle, the site should be fully functional by 8:00 Wednesday evening on the East Coast. In the meantime they are accepting donations on their GoFundMe page to keep the site going.
