A group of parents and children cannot believe the sentence a judge imposed for three siblings who refused to spend time with their own father.

"What happened to freedom of speech? They are constitutional heroes for sticking to their guns," said Karen Gilcher, a family friend.

i read this story this morning and wasn't actually sure i hadn't opened up the hunger games or something by mistake. this is SO. FUCKED. UP.

I'm guessing the public outrage explains why the judge has now relented and is letting them stay at a summer camp...

They are being released and allowed to attend a summer camp instead.

Largely at the petitioning of their father. Because even he knows that you don't lock kids up in a detention facility because they won't have lunch with him.

But first he let them sit in detention for a couple weeks and made himself unavailable for communication while he went back to Israel for a business trip. Except for his phone interview with a reporter to tell his side of the story to the public. He was available for that.
