they do this out here in Cali, too, but I've never seen a Donald duck costume. I wonder how well it would work out here. the other day I almost pulled a woman's top off trying to pull her back onto the sidewalk as she was trying to cross the street because she stepped out in front of a car that didn't stop. it was embarrassing but she would've been hit if I didn't. D: even when you look the driver in the eyes, wait for them to stop for you!

As a pedestrian I always operate on the assumption that if the driver isn't looking directly at me or doesn't wave me on that they don't see me. I know cars need to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks but too many people just step out in front of cars who can't stop quickly enough because they think "right of way" means "I don't have to watch where I'm going."

On my way to work I walk on a crosswalk in the middle of the block, and it's amazing how many people don't understand what a crosswalk means. I'll only step out if it's clear, but as it's a 4 lane road it's easy for cars to turn and pass over the crosswalk before a person can finish walking. They think it's like an intersection (where if the motorist has the right of way, pedestrians shouldn't try to cross).

Same here, when I used to run and bike around the neighborhood back home I always used a rule of 'the driver needs to look me in the eyes and acknowledge me before I try to cross'

He'll, I've had way too many near hits(and one actual when the car came out of nowhere around a corner at a crosswalk in the neighborhood) even with this method.

Yes, this. I work at a hospital split on two sides of the river and take a shuttle back and forth several times a day. One campus of the hospital is on a university campus and those students dart out in front of the shuttle regularly! Happens while driving home as well, and scares the shit out of me. They are walking with their ipods in, looking down at their phones and not paying attention at all. Drivers should yield but pedestrians should frigging look where they're going too! My mom taught me to look both ways before crossing the street.

What's worse is, we have people who will driver AROUND the driver stopped for a pedestrian, and then hit the pedestrian. A crossing guard was killed that way several years ago. :(
